Becoming an ICA Observer

The ICA may offer Observer Status to Acoustics Societies or Acoustics Organisations or Groups which have an interest in joining ICA but are unable to apply for or continue current membership due to financial or other reasons. The following conditions apply to Observer Status:

  • Observer Status is allocated at the discretion of the Board and ratified at the following General Assembly.
  • A society or organisation will normally be given the status of Observer for 3 years. After this period the Secretary General should contact the organisation to obtain their intentions regarding progression to full membership. For those not seeking full membership, the Board has the discretion to remove or to extend the Observer Status.
  • Contacts for the societies or organisations with Observer Status will be included in the ICA webpage for membership listing with a clear indication of their status – Societies or organisations with observer status can use the ICA logo as long as it is clearly stated that they have Observer Status.
  • Societies or organisation with Observer Status are not normally entitled to seek membership benefits, such as ICA sponsorship for symposia. The decision to allow for such entitlements shall be made by the Executive of the Board taking into consideration the purpose of the ICA.
