It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Jean Mattei.
Jean Mattei passed away on Saturday, June 27, in Paris at the age of 105. He played a pioneering role in the advancement and international promotion of noise control engineering.
Mr. Mattei served as a member of the International Commission for Acoustics (ICA) starting in 1969, and held the position of ICA Chairman from 1972 to 1975. He also served as the General Secretary for the 11th ICA Congress held in Paris in 1983. In addition, he was a Director-at-Large of the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE) from 1975 to 1988, chaired the INTER-NOISE Congress in 1988, and served as the President of the Association of French Speaking Acousticians (GALF, later SFA). Throughout his distinguished career, he was the Head of the Acoustics and Vibration Department as well as a Scientific Advisor at Électricité de France (EDF).
